MAIBOLI

Maiboly in Marathi literally means ‘mother-tongue’. The intent being that, special or otherwise, each and every should be able to communicate in his/her mother tongue & fend for self in spite of disability. Till the opening of the Maiboli school, very little aid, assistance and scientifically relevant training was available to the hearing impaired children of the farm labours, adivasis, nomads & minorities of rural Yeola. We at SAMATA PRATISHTHAN decide to bridge the gap. Maiboly Residencial School for the Hearing Impaired was started on 11th June 1995 with 5 students. Today the school is home to 105 hearing impaired students from five surrounding districs. The Pratishthan provides educational facilities as per the norms of Rehabilitation Council of India.

Along with the inception of school, the Pratishthan established ‘Handicap Rehabilitation Center’. Armed with scientific approach and an optimistic consideration, the Pratishthan provides vocational training and orientation courses to enhance the skill levels of the students so as to help them in their rehabilitation. The PRATISHTHAN has accepted the principle of the following saying, “TEACH A HUNGRY PERSON TO CATCH THE FISH INSTEAD OF OFFERING HIM A FISH TO EAT.”

The training of these hearing impaired children revolves not only around the academic curriculum but also on vocational skills to make them independent for their livelihood. The are tought communication skills of listing, reading and writing along with basic computer literacy. We provide them training in carpentry for construction work, weaving of Paithani sarees, tailoring and embroidery, painting, candle making, file making, screen printing, chalk manufacturing and similar other self-employment skills.

The student of the special school are mostly from remote area and face difficulty traveling to and fro. Considering this, the Pratishthan started residential facilities for thse children. As of today, the hostel accommodates over 100 hearing impaired children between the ages 3 to 18.

• Construction of well-equipped building for school.
• Development of vocational training and placement center.

• Computer education center for disabled youth.
• Development of small scale industrial center of the hearing impaired.
